Cheerleading Scholarships

When looking for an athletic scholarship cheer leading sometimes gets overlooked as a serious venue. Cheerleading or fan management as some colleges phrase it, is a lucrative sport that has a world class fan base. Colleges are slowly beginning to recognize this facet and have invested money into scholarships to help the students who participate. Cheerleading scholarships are usually open to any gender and all the applicant has to prove is their ability to add to the sport.
 
Cheerleading has change over the decades. Years ago, cheer leading was mostly a female dominated activity that few, if any, males participated in. Their job was to rally the fans to cheer their team to victory. Today cheerleading squads are not only required to charge up the fans, but acrobatics, dancing, and choreography is a big part of the sport. Sports fans will not settle for a lame cheer leading squad. They want a show.
 
There are many colleges out there that activity recruit cheerleaders and give out cheerleading scholarships. If the student is currently on a cheer squad in high school and has participated in competition, they will have a run in with a recruiter before their junior or senior years a complete. The scholarships go so far as to offer a free ride to the right cheer leader that demonstrates academic ability as well as athletic ability on the field.
 
The cheerleading scholarship will provide for tuition, books, and even a little money left over for living expenses. The cheerleader in college is on the road a lot so they have to be diligent in their studies even when not in class. The social aspect of cheerleading in college also adds to the benefits concerning going to college on a cheerleading scholarship.
 
The two top colleges that award the most and the most expensive cheerleading scholarships are the University of Hawaii and the University of Delaware. These fine universities promote cheerleading as if it was an official colligate sport. They sponsor competitions and even give allowance for on the road living and travel expenses. Both universities have award winning cheerleading squads and only recruit from the best of high school cheerleading squads.
 
When looking for a cheerleading scholarship, it is best to contact the school you want to go to in person. The student who approaches the coaches and recruiters in person will not be lost in piles of applicants and proposals. Bring a film clip of yourself in action and be ready to perform for the recruiters without any notice.
