Scholarship and Grant Programs Available in Connecticut

Students eagerly await the arrival of that one particular admittance letter from the various colleges they sent applications to. Days, weeks, and even months go by without any news. Finally comes the day that they make their way to the mailbox to find a letter with their name on it from one of the colleges.

Excited yet wary, they open the letter, then in a burst of relief they read the words "We are happy to inform you". There are so many plans to make after that, one being how they are going to pay for tuition, books, and other expenses associated with attending college.

Except for a few privileged individuals, the rest of us have to find money for college. The state of Connecticut offers many programs to students looking for the help of financial aid to apply to their college expenses. If one lives in Connecticut and has worked throughout their high school career to achieve the highest degree of excellence, that individual just might be eligible for the Robert C. Byrd Honors Scholarship.   This is a federally funded program that awards money to the cream of the crop students to apply to the college or university of their choice throughout the United States. One might better their chances of acquiring this scholarship if they put forth effort in their community as well. Although the Robert C. Byrd Honors Scholarship only renews for the time allotment of 3 years, you may achieve the Capitol Scholarship to continue funding when the other ends.

Connecticut is also a member of the GEAR UP program. The GEAR UP program begins working with students that are in awful financial situations as early as middle school. In order to meet requirements for this particular scholarship there is a particular academic criterion that needs to be met.
