When looking for the right college, most people look at cost or the type of programs that the college offers. The question that does not get much attention is which college is best, private, or public. This question should be at the top of your cue when deciding a college, because there are benefits and drawbacks to each system. Each system is capable of giving you the best education in what you want to do, but there are certain nuances that one system can achieve over the other.
Public colleges get revenues and funding from the state. This money keeps tuition lower and also helps to fund projects around the campus. The state mandates certain regulations for this fund and the college and students benefit from the mandates. Tuition is the main difference in comparing both kinds of schools. The tuition costs at a private school can be very high. In return you get a high quality education and the backing of that school’s name when you are competing for employment. State colleges get recognition usually because of their sports program. Private college’s recognition comes mostly from academic achievement and other more scholarly endeavors.
The choice is yours. You need to weight the benefit of each type of schools and decide which will benefit you most. Whether socially, academically, or physically, the aspects of your life and where you want to be dictates the college and the college choice that your choose. Tuition is the main catalyst in your decision making and you have to decide if you want a high priced name or a low price education. State and federal financial aid is available in both venues.
