College is an important aspect to anyone’s life. It is four years that you will take and dedicate to a field of study that could determine what kind of life and life style you will have in the future. The earlier a student starts to plan for college the more prepared they will be for the right kind of college and the finances it takes to get there. Preplanning in even the freshmen year of high school is prudent and the earlier one preplans, the better chance that student has of making their college goals.
As a freshman, you can start preplanning your college by taking the courses that will get you into the college and the field that you want to be in. This means that you may have to spend your high school career in some pretty tough classes. The better your transcript looks and the more honor or upper level classes you have, the more chance you will have in getting in the college you want to go in. The student also has to look at what core courses they will have. It is better to get your feet wet in high school than have a new subject dumped on you in college.
Your sophomore and junior years in high school should be spent making good grades and working on civic projects. Colleges want leaders. If you are in student government or in a club that practices good citizenship, then you will have a better resume for the college admissions board. Every little thing counts, so the student needs to spend their time being active in as many clubs and associations that they can attend without losing time in class or dropping their grades. The more active, the more the colleges will look at your application.
During the senior year, the student needs to start applying and visiting colleges. You have to look at location, the degrees offered, the climate of the school in respect to culture and religion, and if the student will actually be able to find a place to live and maybe a job during their school stay. The senior should also take the SATs and ACT test and pass with a good score. Applications for college should go out in the fall of the senior year and a substitute college needs to be looked out if picked colleges turn the student down.
