Balancing a job and going to college is a juggling act that is difficult, but can be done if the student follows a few specific guidelines. You can’t tackle both endeavors without have a plan. Most of the students who try to do both without a plan fail or have a very hard time trying to do both. It takes some finesse and some creativity, but with proper planning the balance can be made and you can be successful at both goals.
Most college students need extra money because the cost of tuition and books has sky rocketed way beyond the means of the average student to get by. It takes time to go to class, do outside projects, and to study for exams can take a toll on both mind and body. By planning out your day and your semester, this toll will not be so extreme, and you will find time for pleasure that you would not have if you did not have a plan.
The first step is establishing a schedule. You should plan you job right after school. If your last class is at 3:00 then you should put your eight hours of work in right after that class. This will get you home around 11:00 or 12:00. Go to be immediately and get a good eight hours sleep. When you wake up, hit the books right away. Your mind will be fresh and you will have a fresh perspective in the morning.
Carry flash cards or your text to work. If you have down time for five minutes use that five minutes to study your flash cards or to memorize a fact or two. You can even use your flash cards while you are working. Take out a card and go over the fact over and over in your head while you are working. This will instill the facts into your head and you will have less to study for in the morning.
The extra money you make and the good grades you achieve will show you that you can work and go to college at the same time. The student just has to keep their priorities straight and to maintain a level of diligence. Financial aid is sometimes not enough so a job will keep those Ramen noodles on the table and gas in your car. The balance is attainable and must be kept to be successful in both endeavors.
